My rose bush bloomed!
August 29, 2009
Success! This spring I mail ordered a few rose bushes from Heirloom Roses in Oregon. I have a small patio area that doesn’t get more then 1-2 hours of sun each day. I wanted a climber that would provide some greenery on my cement patio wall. Almost every plant called for more sun than my location could supply, so I did a bit more research. It turns out the Darlow’s Enigma climbing rose bush does really well in full shade.
I just noticed this bloom this morning. There is a cluster of buds surrounding it.
Spontaneous clapping ensued.
hori hori dig dig!

You’ve got a nice blog. I am a rose enthusiast looking for shade-tolerant roses and wondered how your’ Darlow’s Enigma was faring. Is it still doing well? Would you recommend it?

Thanks, Frank.
I bought two of them. I had never planted starter rose bushes before. One of them grew quickly last summer. It was getting a little more light than the other. The other one is still hanging in there, but still hasn’t really taken off. I love the delicate flowers when they bloom. I would recommend it. I bought them on http://www.heirloomroses.com from Oregon.
Good luck in your search!
