Lovely St. Clouds
August 19, 2009
Last night was one of those sweet warm summer Seattle evenings and it seemed fitting that we went to dinner at St. Clouds in Madrona. They have good comfort food and a nice relaxing environment. The staff is friendly, attendant and very knowledgeable. I like the courtyard that leads to their front door and the windows that open to the sidewalk.
St. Clouds sits on a beautiful tree-lined street with old homes and cobbled side streets. It seems like the kind of place where you could borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbors anytime. I like Madrona because it is quiet and it overlooks Lake Washington. After dinner we went for a stroll along the tiny interconnected sidewalks that meander through this neighborhood. They aren’t the normal sidewalks. I felt a bit voyeuristic walking on a tiny path between large homes.
There are only a few restaurants (St. Clouds and a pub) on this strip along with a toy store and a consignment shop (I hear they has some pretty good stuff). Madrona reminds me of living in the Irvington neighborhood in Portland. You don’t feel like you live in a big city in a neighborhood like this. I feel like sauntering down the streets here instead of my normal hurried pace. It’s a bit Norman Rockwell-ish.
Now, off I go back to the city…
